Hedy Lamarr was born on
November 9, 1914, in Vienna, Austria and she died on
January 19, 2000, in Casselberry, Florida. As a kid, Lamarr studied ballet and piano. She also attended a very famous acting school in Berlin headed by director Max Reinhardt.
In 1997, Lamarr won an award called the EFF Pioneer Award because of her creation of the concept of
frequency hopping. Hedy Lamarr was blessed with an exceptional scientific mind so much so that along side her partner
George Antheil, Lamarr invented a system for radio communication. This system is the core of every modern communication system which includes the
GSM cell phone system which is widely used. The technology pioneered by Hedy Lamarr would later be the key to
WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth.
